Creating the novel, turquoise, was an incredible journey that saw its first beginnings more than a decade ago, while I was living in Saskatchewan. One September morning, when my daughter was only three, I sat watching her play, bottling the moment when out of nowhere I received a very strong vision....

I was with the woman, watching her as she sat with her dog , gazing longingly at the man on the fishing boat. It felt like home, the fishing village with dotted coloured homes dispersed along the coast, the lighthouse on the island in the distance, the call of the gulls, the taste of salt in the breeze.

There was a struggle, an underlying current of emotions blocked between the woman and the man on the boat, something horrible happened and I felt it....they still loved each other but this 'thing' drove them apart.

I knew this image in my mind was important so I quickly grabbed a notebook and wrote down every detail, titling it 'the man on the boat', storing the book away. I thought about it from time to time, knowing deeply it carried a special purpose, finally understanding its meaning years later......
